How to get an internship at Google India?

Why & When to Apply:

• Google gets about 2 million applications each year, you can imagine the intense competition you will have to deal with.
• The interviews are moderate to hard level software design and algorithmic problems, and the interviewers are experts in the subject.So you have to have a good knowledge of basics and their application to solve problems. They can see right through you.
• Perhaps a bit of luck counts too. Many superb coders haven't get a chance to get into Google, inspite of nailing every interview.
• Time of your application is just as important. Always apply early. Many students apply at the end moment, and get a mail saying that they are not hiring as of now, or that the applications are full, asking to apply the next year.

Way to get into Google :

1. Applying via the careers portal:
Takes one click to apply. But there’s no guarantee of hearing back, maybe due to the large number of applicants. But quite few did manage to get interview calls, from other Google offices (abroad).


2. A referral:

The easiest way to get an interview in my opinion. Contact some senior/acquantaince who works at Google. They should be able to easily refer you.

3. Qualifying Google Kickstart(formerly Google APAC):

Basically a competitive programming contest, conducted multiple times in a year. Generally you need to be in the top 150–200 to get a interview. Pretty difficult thanks to the high competition. However, yours truly got interviews this way, so it’s not really difficult given enough practice and smart work.

4.Campus internships:

Google India comes to a few colleges like IITs, IIITs for campus internships. Generally it is based on a CGPA cutoff and a resume shortlist. Tends to also take into consideration your performance in APAC while shortlist.


After this stage, there are 2 interviews(mostly phone, but at times on-site as well).
